Out West is the first album to document Gomez's explosive live shows. The two-disc set was recorded over the course of a sold-out three-night engagement at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco in January 2005.

Out West's career-spanning tracklist opens with the psychedelic "Get Miles" and quickly moves along to the frenetic rocker "Shot Shot," proclaiming from the start Gomez's energy and versatility. The set also includes fan favorites like "Whippin' Piccadilly" and "Bring It On," as well as covers of Tom Waits' "Going Out West" and Nick Drake's "Black Eyed Dog" (the latter of which segues into Gomez's own "Free To Run").
